Ramy Youssef is an Egyptian-American comedian, actor, writer, and director born in the Queens borough of New York City.

He later grew up in New Jersey. His father became the manager of the Plaza Hotel in New York City ten years after emigrating from Egypt. Youssef was raised in a Muslim family, observes Islamic holidays, and is a practicing Muslim.
He attended Rutherford High School in Rutherford, New Jersey. Youssef then went on to study political science and economics at Rutgers University–Newark but dropped out before graduating to attend the William Esper Studio to focus on acting.
