She was born on June 31, 1973, in Tehran, Iran. Her grandfather, Max Rosenberg, was a film producer whose name appeared in the credits of the first color horror film, "Curse of Frankenstein" (1957). Her parents, Richard and Elizabeth Rumelt, were avid travelers, and Cassandra spent her childhood moving from country to country.

She even spent a month traveling through the Himalayas on her father's back. When she was 10 years old, the family settled in Los Angeles, where she attended school.
